Answer: The movement of  solute particles  take place from a region of higher concentration to a region where the concentration of solutes is low. This is diffusion. Similarly, osmosis involves the movement of  water molecules  from a region of higher concentration to a region of lower where the concentration of water molecule is low, through a semi-permeable membrane. This is a picture showing comparison between osmosis and diffusion.
